Rootlessness and Other Stories

Momin Uddin is a Bengali-English author and academic in Bangladesh. He teaches English literature as well as literatures in English in the Department of English at Jagannath University, Dhaka, and occasionally writes in both Bangla and English. Rootlessness and Other Stories is his debut short story collection, featuring twelve selected stories.

Mr. Uddin’s scholarly journey is shaped by a deep engagement with Indian English literature. He wrote his doctoral dissertation on R. K. Narayan’s novels and short stories, and has authored a number of essays on Indian English authors, including Raja Rao, Mulk Raj Anand, Nayantara Sahgal, Anita Desai, and Bharati Mukherjee.

Although an ardent lover of Bangla and Bangla literature, he believes the global English language offers non-native English writers an opportunity to reflect upon and present to the world community the voices of people whose stories were for so long misrepresented by colonizers in their English.  For Uddin, language is not merely a medium but a mode of resistance: a means of reclaiming narratives from colonial shadows and carrying the truths of his people onto a global stage.
